Season 3 of Only Murders In The Building just released and I know I am not the only one who is super excited that Season 4 has already been approved by Hulu!
It’s been a campy, silly, funny, intriguing, and heartfelt ride this season…often all of those emotions being toyed with by the writers within minutes.
But, of course, murders and crime-solving aside, how about those APARTMENTS?!
Charles-Haden Savage (Steve Martin), Oliver Putnam (Martin Short) and Mabel Mora (Selena Gomez) all have very distinct personalities. One would think they would not gel as friends, not to mention a crime-podcasting trifecta. But the trio’s eccentricities seem to compliment each other rather than polarize.
Through the seasons, we have been invited into their Upper West Side Arconia apartments and their loud (or soft) idiosyncrasies are displayed through their decor.
If you have found yourself drawn to one character’s digs over another, it probably says something about your own personality.
CHARLES-HADEN SAVAGE’S FUNKY, MODERN APARTMENT
Charles apartment reflects his nostalgia of his Hollywood days in the 1970s -1980s. Charles was a popular TV cop on the show “Brazzos,” and his attachment to those days seems to linger on in both his constant reminding his friends of those glory days, and in his choice of decorating style.
Not that that’s a bad thing.
His tastes include bold colors and geometric patterns, and a occasionally a pattern combination that makes you wonder what on Earth he was taking at the time. But seriously, the space is clean and uncluttered, intentionally bold, but not stuffy. The apartment feels happy-go-lucky, much like the character Charles-Haden Savage.
All things considered, his apartment is intentional and interesting. He has me at the kitchen, with the bright green cabinets with brass trim, combined with a multi-colored triangular floor.
That floor is supreme.
By adding in some funky, retro light fixtures and a blend of mid-century modern and art-deco furniture, and you have my personal favorite style of the three.
WHAT THIS SAYS ABOUT YOUR PERSONALITY
If you prefer Charles apartment style, it signifies that you value timeless design and a sense of aesthetic balance. Charles’ style is demonstrated with clean lines, simplicity, and emphasis on functionality, reflecting that you appreciate the beauty in minimalism and that you find harmony in your surroundings. You are an organized and thoughtful personality, one that seeks to create an environment where form and function coexist seamlessly.
Moreover, your affinity for his modern/deco style may indicate that you prefer authenticity and a connection to history. You appreciate the craftsmanship and quality of vintage pieces, highlighting a respect for the past and an eco-conscious mindset by choosing to repurpose and recycle older items. You value nature, simplicity, and a sense of openness in your life.
OLIVER PUTNAM’S ECLECTIC, MAXIMALIST APARTMENT
One does not just simply walk through a space this.
They sashay.
Over the top, exploding with texture and pattern, and lots and lots of fluff…that’s the look of self-glorified theater director, Oliver Putnam.
Maximalism is having a moment right now, so this space is on-point (obvious clutter aside). Velvets and trims and books and books and books are met with large-scale traditional motif wallpapers, drapery, sculpture and unique “finds.”
Oliver has lived many lives through his former directorial days, and many effigies of his big persona are seen through the plethora of elegant, on-the-edge-of-tacky, and sentimental items that are placed together in his rooms.
WHAT THIS SAYS ABOUT YOUR PERSONALITY
If you prefer Oliver’s apartment style, you revel in bold self-expression, creativity, and a love for eclectic aesthetics. You find joy in abundance and are unafraid to make a statement through your living spaces. You prefer vibrant colors, diverse patterns, and an array of textures that signifies that you are exuberant, adventurous, and unapologetically unique. You have a collector’s mentality, where each piece of furniture or decor item holds sentimental value or has a story to tell. It’s possible that you reject societal norms and have an assertion of individuality. You aren’t afraid to challenge conventional design principles and appreciate the beauty in chaos and variety. You love featuring a mix of styles, eras, and cultural influences, indicating you are open-minded and have an inclusive personality that appreciates diversity. Ultimately, you are someone who embraces the philosophy of “more is more,” valuing self-expression, creativity, and the celebration of life’s rich tapestry.
MABEL MORA’S (FINALLY-COMPLETED!) LUXURIOUS, MINIMALIST APARTMENT
After living in a shelled out apartment, albeit one with personal artistic touches such as portraits of other Arconia residents, Mable Mora was due for a decor glow-up.
And boy, did her apartment (or her aunt’s apartment, to be technical) do a 180°.
Mable’s finished abode is minimal, old-money modern. Neutral, but warm finishes in cream and gold and rich wood tones are perfectly (and I do mean PERFECTLY) married to furniture styles with organic shapes and Art Deco styling.
You can almost feel the boucle.
Mabel’s residence is a luxurious and glamorous respite after all those years of renovations.
What this says about your personality…
If you prefer Mabel’s apartment style, You have refined and discerning tastes and value simplicity and functionality in your surroundings. You have a penchant for clean lines, uncluttered spaces, and a focus on essential elements. Because you gravitate towards Mabel’s design style, you appreciate the beauty found in simplicity, showcasing your innate ability to find harmony in a streamlined and unadorned environment.
